A4/E D4/G I drove up to the city at night and found the place A4/E Where you grew up and then where you stayed D4/G And we walked around and stayed up late A4/E under city lights,I spent the night D4/G next to you in the house where you grew up A4/E Next to you I miraculously woke up D4 In your parents' house I laid in bed with you A4/E D4/G I went back to feel alone there A4/E D4/G I went back to wipe it clean A4/E D4/G I took the lights and radio towers out of my dreams A4/E D4/G And we went all the way up to the small town where I'm from A4/E With foggy air and the wind and the mountain top D4/G And we clung to rocks and looked off A4/E and you held my hand ,You almost got to start feeling me D4/G I finally felt like I was breathing free A4/E D4/G Under swaying trees we fell asleep and we had the same dream A4/E The stars were bright, we dream the same every night D4/G On my island home I spent some time with you A4/E D4/G I went back to feel alone there A4/E D4/G I went back there by myself A4/E D4/G I gave up on everything that we'd felt A4/E D4/G We found a precious place in the sand right out in the wind A4/E And we laid under a blanket and heard the furious sound D4/G The roar of waves, the pounding surf, two bodies on the earth A4/E D4/G It was intense just getting to be there next to you A4/E D4/G And you trying to get me then, and I was happy to let you in A4/E D4/G I went back and wished I hadn't A4/E D4/G I went back and felt regret A4/E D4/G A4/E D4/G I went to the beach and I stared west A4/E D4/G Every night when the sun went down in the town where we lived A4/E The empty streets were lit up by reflected light D4/G from a distant sun. Bouncing off a glowing ball of rock A4/E D4/G and we just laid on the roof And watched A4/E D4/G the moon, the moon, the blue light of the moon. We didn't talk A4/E and silently we both felt powerful D4/G And, like the moon, my chest was full A4/E D4/G 'cause we both knew We're just floating in space over molten rock A4/E And we felt safe and we discovered that our skin is soft D4/G There's nothing left except certain death A4/E D4/G And that was comforting at night out under the moon A4/E D4/G I went out last night to forget that A4/E D4/G I went out and stared it down A4/E D4/G But the moon just stared back at me A4/E D4/G A4/E And in it's light I saw my two feet on the ground
